Just one 6A state championship for Bend schools this year

The move to Class 6A meant great competition for Bend schools and less state championships. The only 6A state title brought home by a Bend school was Summit’s girls cross county crown. They followed that up with a national championship as well! Of the 19 state championships available at the 6A level, 10 of them were won by Jesuit. No other school won more than one.

Some dates to look forward to for Oregon High School Sports:

2019-2020 – The Bend schools will have their second year of competing at the Class 6A Level. I predict the state championship count goes from one to three next year.

2020-2021 – In the final year before the new high school is built, the three Bend high schools should have their largest attendance numbers ever. This means teams could have their biggest pools of kids to pull from… what will that mean for teams making deep state/playoff runs?

2021-2022 – New high school opens in Bend.

2022-2023 – Start of a new classification cycle. Every four years the OSAA realigns its classifications. In the last cycle, the three Bend schools made the move from Class 5A to Class 6A (the largest in the state).
