IMC leaving its mark on final year in 5A

The Intermountain Conference will not be the same league it has traditionally been starting in 2018-2019. Bend, Mountain View and Summit are all moving up to Class 6A, while Hermiston is joining a state of Washington league. So it seems fitting that those IMC teams are leaving their mark on Class 5A in their final fall season before reclassification. Here’s how the teams from the IMC faired this fall, which just wrapped up with a Hermiston state football championship.

I made a few predictions for the fall or 2017. I didn’t exactly take a long of chances, but overall I was pretty solid

I was three for four.

WRONG
1. 6A Football State champion – Sheldon
Is it too late to pick Clackamas?

RIGHT
2. 5A Girl’s XC State Champion – Summit
Not only did they win, but the claimed the first perfect score in state history.

RIGHT
3. A Central Oregon school wins at least one of the 4A and 5A volleyball state championships.
Bend girls beat Summit girls for the 5A title and the Sisters girls win the 4A crown!

RIGHT
4. A Central Oregon team wins a state soccer championship.
The Summit girls rolled to another state title!

Jesuit and Sunset have quite the girls sports rivalry!

The two Beaverton schools are only five miles apart and it appears they might be that far ahead of the rest of the state when it comes to 6A girls sports in Oregon. They haven’t won every state championship this year, but they’ve been in the mix. Checkout these crazy postseason matchups between the two Metro League schools.

State Cross County
1, Jesuit (51). 2 Sunset (83). 3, St. Mary’s Academy (107).

State Soccer
No. 5 Sunset upsets No. 1 ranked Jesuit 2-1 with a 4-3 penalty kick win the state semifinals.

State Volleyball
In the state quarterfinals, No. 8 Sunset upsets No. 1 Jesuit 15-25, 16-25, 25-22, 27-25, 15-10 with a come from behind win, that snapped a 92-match win streak for Jesuit.

State Swimming

Would you believe they went a combined 4-6 in week one? Of those six loses, three were to Class 6A teams and two were to out of state teams. Only No. 3 Central, which lost 26-24 to Bend high, was upset by a Class 5A team.
