Bend needs more tennis courts

12 outdoor courts in Roseburg.

Tennis has a huge youth following in Bend… but there just aren’t enough public tennis courts to go around.

The three Bend high schools (Bend, Mountain View and Summit) have four tennis courts each. Add to that Juniper Park’s 4 courts and you’ve got 16 courts to spread around the programs, with no more than four in one location.

Compare that to some of the following:
• Roseburg – 18 (Umpqua Valley Tennis Center – 12 outside, 6 inside)
• North Medford High School – 10
• Ridgeview High School (Redmond) – 8
• Sam Johnson Park (Redmond high school) – 8
• Madras High School – 8
• Crook County High School – 6
• South Medford High School – 8
• Crescent Valley High School (Corvallis) – 8
• Westview High School (Beaverton) – 8
• Century High School (Hillsboro) – 8
• Lake Oswego High School – 7
• Jesuit High School (Beaverton) – 6
• Baker High School – 6
• Corvallis High School – 6
• Wilsonville High School – 6
• Lakeridge High School (Lake Oswego) 6
• Grant High School (Portland) – 6
• Clackamas High School – 5

We are missing out on a big opportunity to host more tennis tournaments and to help grow what is already a very popular sport here in Bend.
